Weeping Eczema on Hands

Sometimes, there is blistering and oozing, called weeping eczema or wet eczema.

Intensely itchy crops of skin-coloured blisters arise on the palms and the sides of the hands and fingers. Similar symptoms often affect the feet. It is likely this form of dermatitis is triggered by emotional stresses via sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Chronic relapsing vesiculosquamous dermatitis is a common pattern of palmar and finger dermatitis, in which episodes of acute vesicular dermatitis are followed by chronic scaling and fissuring.

Weeping or oozing eczema is more common in infants, but adults can suffer from it as well. See your doctor if your eczema makes it hard for you to function normally, keeps you from sleeping or if you think it might be infected. Some people turn to home remedies to soothe and dry up weeping, oozing eczema. Before trying a home remedy for your weeping eczema, get the OK from your doctor.

 Eczema on the Ears

Dermatitis of the ear canal is itching, scaling, flaking, and swelling of the skin of the ear canal and skin at the entrance of the ear canal.

There are two types of dermatitis of the ear canal:

Contact dermatitis

Aural eczematoid dermatitis

Contact dermatitis of the ear canal is an allergic reaction to triggers such as nickel-containing earrings and numerous beauty products (for example, hairsprays, lotions, and hair dye).

Aural eczematoid dermatitis of the ear canal can occur spontaneously in some people who have certain kinds of dermatitis-like conditions such as seborrhea and psoriasis.

Both types of dermatitis cause itching, redness, a clear discharge or moisture, and peeling, darkening, and painful cracking of the skin. The skin irritation and cracking may allow an infection caused by bacteria (acute external otitis) to develop. The first symptom of a bacterial infection is typically severe ear pain.

To treat contact dermatitis, people should eliminate allergic triggers, especially earrings and possibly even hearing aid molds. Trial and error may be needed to identify the allergic trigger. Doctors give people a cream containing a corticosteroid such as betamethasone to decrease swelling and itching. People should avoid putting cotton swabs, water, and other possibly irritating substances in the ear.

 Wet Eczema

There are actually two types of weeping eczema: primary and secondary.

Primary types refer to the blistering types of eczema, such as dysrodhitc eczema, nummular eczema or discoid eczema. These can vary from just one or two blisters, or small crops of more than three. These look like blisters and contain a clear fluid. This fluid can leak through the skin’s epidermis if scratched, bumped, or picked at (very common to happen), which is where the primary term “weeping eczema” comes from.

Secondary types refer to the weeping caused by a secondary problem, and is often confused with primary types. The biggest difference between the two is that secondary weeping eczema happens after your initial breakout, in response to outside bacteria or foreign items. Secondary types can occur over large areas of the body, or over areas of previously dry eczema. Secondary types contain milky or yellow fluid.

On your skin there lives a thriving community of bacteria, called Staphylococcus Aureus (or Staph A.) These are located in heavy concentrations around your nose, mouth, ears, privates, as well as just on your skin itself.

According to research, the biggest factor (if not the only factor) that causes weeping on your skin, is due to these bacteria.

Small areas of weeping eczema from colonization can usually be treated at home, and will probably benefit from the tips in this article, however if you have large eczema areas that are severely covered with Staph A, then it’s important to check with your doctor to rule out any complications such as a Staph infection.

 Papilloma on Hands

In most cases, your body's immune system defeats an HPV infection before it creates warts. When warts do appear, they vary in appearance depending on which variety of HPV.

Common warts, plantar and flat warts. Common warts are rough, raised bumps most commonly found on the hands, fingers and elbows. Plantar warts are described as hard, grainy growths on the feet, most commonly appearing on the heels or balls of the feet.

Most hand and foot warts are harmless and do not require treatment. In fact, many of them disappear once your immune system recognizes and fights off the virus. However, if you have a painful or bothersome wart that you want removed, you can try various over-the-counter treatments such as wart patches and creams containing salicylic acid. These treatment methods may work more effectively if the wart is soaked in warm water before application, and if the wart is gently abraded with a sanitized nail file or pumice stone between treatments. However, if these methods don’t work, you can schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to explore other options. Your dermatologist will first examine the wart to rule out other types of lumps and bumps. After that, your dermatologist might remove a small section of the wart tissue and conduct a biopsy to diagnose it properly. Finally, prescription creams or medications, and in some cases, cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery or curettage (burning), chemical peels, injections, or minor surgery (excision), may be required to remove wart tissue. Make sure to inform your doctor or dermatologist if you have diabetes, because cuts or burns could potentially cause permanent nerve damage in your feet.

 Papilloma Toe

Human papilloma viruses (HPVs) cause warts in people -- whether on the skin or on mucous membranes. There are over 100 identified types of HPVs. HPVs grow only in humans, and no other causes of warts have been found (it is not possible to get a wart from touching a frog, regardless of folklore). Some HPV types grow best in skin, while others grow best in mucous membranes. Some types grow only in skin or in mucous membranes, but there are a few which can grow in both places although they may prefer skin to mucous membranes or vice versa.

The most common HPV infection is a wart on the skin. Common warts are rough, hard lumps or plaques (flatter lesions) with a rough, irregular top surface. They are found mostly on the back of the hand or the top of the foot, between fingers or toes, near fingernails or toenails. They can also be seen on mucous membranes. Like all skin warts, HPV causing common warts is transmitted from an infected person, usually by skin-to-skin contact although viral particles may be left on objects (such as shower-stall floors or gym equipment) and picked up by someone else touching the object. It is possible for HPV to infect unbroken skin, but broken skin certainly makes it easier for HPV to enter, and people with eczema or who have certain kinds of immune problems (such as those caused by AIDS or induced in organ-transplant recipients by antirejection drugs) are more likely to be infected. It takes 2-6 months after exposure to HPV to develop a wart.

 Papilloma on the Heel

When a wart is found on the bottom of the foot, it is known as a plantar wart. These warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

They are usually found on the soles of your feet, under pressure points, such as on the balls of your feet or on your heels. Warts seldom need urgent medical attention, but they can become painful and annoying.

Some plantar warts tend to be stubborn, and they do not respond well to treatment. If this is the case, a podiatrist will remove them for you. Plantar warts can occur at any age, but are most commonly seen in children and young adults under the age of 30.

There are two types of plantar warts: solitary and mosaic. Solitary warts are single warts that may increase in size, eventually multiplying and forming satellite warts. Mosaic warts are clusters of small warts that grow close to one another. Mosaic warts are more difficult to treat than solitary warts.

There are a few different symptoms of a plantar wart. They include:

Possible pain when walking or standing

Thick skin in the area where the wart is developing, resembling a callus

Appearing very small at first, but growing larger

Tiny black dots appear on the surface of the wart

Clusters of warts form around a “mother wart”

If you see the tiny black dots, do not panic. They are simply dried blood that is trapped in the capillaries (tiny blood vessels).

Warts tend to have rough surfaces and clearly defined borders. They are typically the same color as your skin, but they sometimes appear darker. Although some people feel pain from plantar warts, in most cases they are painless and do not itch.

 Dry Eczema on Hands

Almost always, your skin will itch before a rash appears in eczema.

Typically, eczema shows itself as:

Patches of chronically itchy, dry, thickened skin, usually on the hands, neck, face, and legs (but it can occur anywhere). In children, the inner creases of the knees and elbows are often involved.

If scratched, dry patches of skin and open sores with crusts may develop and may get infected.

It can be hard to tell for sure if you have eczema. You’ll want to see a dermatologist or other doctor to find out.

At your appointment, your doctor will check your skin and talk with you about your symptoms, your health history in general, and any rashes or allergies that run in your family.

If your doctor decides you need meds to treat your eczema, those may include:

Hydrocortisone. Over-the-counter cream or ointment versions of it may help mild eczema. If yours is severe, you may need a prescription dose.

Antihistamines. Ones you take by mouth are available over-the-counter and may help relieve symptoms. Some of these make you drowsy, but others don’t.

Corticosteroids. Your doctor may prescribe these if other treatments don’t work. Always follow your doctor's directions when taking steroids by mouth.

Ultraviolet light therapy. This may help if your skin condition is severe.

Eczema is not a single health condition but a recognizable reaction pattern seen in a number of skin diseases.

Atopic dermatitis, a common causes of eczema, is more prevalent in those with asthma and hay fever.

Eczema signs and symptoms include tiny blisters (vesicles) that can weep and ooze, eventually producing crusted, thickened plaques of skin. It is almost always quite itchy.

It is important to distinguish the different causes of eczema because effective treatments often differ.

If eczema is produced by skin exposure to a specific substance, it can be helpful to avoid it.

Keeping the skin healthy and moisturized can prevent certain kinds of eczema.

You may have Atopic Dermatitis if:

Your skin is dry and reddened and, unlike dry and very dry skin, it cannot be cured, only managed.

Your skin is prone to scaling, thickening and cracking. Skin is intensely itchy and has a tendency to reddening and inflammation. This is not only caused by moisture deficiency but also a disruption of fatty acid metabolism which leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier function.

Your dry skin experiences flare-ups where it appears reddenend, irritated, itchy and inflamed . This may be all at the same time or just one or two of these symptoms.

 Plantar Wart

Although common warts can be found on palms or soles, warts on the palms or soles, known as plantar warts (not "planter's warts, by the way -- "plantar" is the term we use to refer to the sole of the foot) are usually thick and painful, and are often covered by a thick callus (a layer of thick and hard skin). The skin ridges that make up your fingerprints and hand prints are obliterated on the wart surface. If the callus and the top of the wart are shaved off with a razor blade you may see bleeding from tiny blood vessels within the wart tissue. (Often we have to shave off part of the wart to be able to do anything else to treat it.)

Plantar wart signs and symptoms include:

A small, fleshy, rough, grainy growth (lesion) on the bottom of your foot

Hard, thickened skin (callus) over a well-defined "spot" on the skin, where a wart has grown inward

Black pinpoints, which are commonly called wart seeds but are actually small, clotted blood vessels

A lesion that interrupts the normal lines and ridges in the skin of your foot

Pain or tenderness when walking or standing

See your doctor for the lesion on your foot if:

The lesion is painful or changes in appearance or color

You've tried treating the wart, but it persists, multiplies or recurs

Your discomfort interferes with activities

You also have diabetes or poor sensation in your feet — in which case, you'll need treatment supervised by a doctor

You also have a weakened immune system because of immune-suppressing drugs, HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders

You aren't sure whether the lesion is a wart

 Thrombosis Symptoms Leg

DVT classically produces pain and limb edema; however symptoms may be present or absent, unilateral or bilateral, or mild or severe. Thrombus that does not cause a net venous outflow obstruction is often asymptomatic. Edema is the most specific symptom of DVT. Thrombus that involves the iliac bifurcation, the pelvic veins, or the vena cava produces leg edema that is usually bilateral rather than unilateral. High partial obstruction often produces mild bilateral edema that is mistaken for the dependent edema of right-sided heart failure, fluid overload, or hepatic or renal insufficiency. Massive edema with cyanosis and ischemia (phlegmasia cerulea dolens) is rare.

Leg pain occurs in 50% of patients, but this is entirely nonspecific. Pain can occur on dorsiflexion of the foot (Homans sign). Tenderness occurs in 75% of patients but is also found in 50% of patients without objectively confirmed DVT. When tenderness is present, it is usually confined to the calf muscles or along the course of the deep veins in the medial thigh. Pain and/or tenderness away from these areas is not consistent with venous thrombosis and usually indicates another diagnosis. The pain and tenderness associated with DVT does not usually correlate with the size, location, or extent of the thrombus. Warmth or erythema of skin can be present over the area of thrombosis.

Clinical signs and symptoms of PE as the primary manifestation occur in 10% of patients with confirmed DVT.

Even with patients with classic symptoms, as many as 46% have negative venograms. Furthermore, as many as 50% of those with image-documented venous thrombosis lack specific symptoms. DVT simply cannot be diagnosed or excluded based on clinical findings; thus, diagnostic tests must be performed whenever the diagnosis of DVT is being considered.

 Eczema on Shin

Most often, a rash affecting the lower legs is a type of dermatitis. The terms ‘dermatitis’ and ‘eczema’ are often used interchangeably. Acute dermatitis presents as red, swollen and blistered plaques. Chronic dermatitis accompanied by rubbing and scratching results in darkened (hyperpigmented), and thickened (lichenified) plaques.

There are several different types of lower leg dermatitis, which is common at all ages.

Management depends on making a correct diagnosis. General advice should include:

Avoid and treat dry skin, using non-soap cleansers and thick simple emollients. Avoid exposing the legs to direct heat or the hot air of the heater in a car.

Minimise swelling – avoid standing for prolonged periods, take regular walks, elevate the feet when sitting or overnight and wear special graduated compression stockings long term.

Prescription treatments may include oral antibiotics for secondary infection and topical steroids of varying potency – weak products can be used long term if necessary but potent topical steroids should be used once or twice daily for short courses of one to four weeks.

Avoid topical antibiotics, topical antihistamines and multi-ingredient fragranced or herb-containing emollients because of the risk of provoking contact allergy.
