Sometimes, there is blistering and oozing, called weeping eczema or wet eczema.

Intensely itchy crops of skin-coloured blisters arise on the palms and the sides of the hands and fingers. Similar symptoms often affect the feet. It is likely this form of dermatitis is triggered by emotional stresses via sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Chronic relapsing vesiculosquamous dermatitis is a common pattern of palmar and finger dermatitis, in which episodes of acute vesicular dermatitis are followed by chronic scaling and fissuring.

Weeping or oozing eczema is more common in infants, but adults can suffer from it as well. See your doctor if your eczema makes it hard for you to function normally, keeps you from sleeping or if you think it might be infected. Some people turn to home remedies to soothe and dry up weeping, oozing eczema. Before trying a home remedy for your weeping eczema, get the OK from your doctor.

 Dry Eczema on Hands

Almost always, your skin will itch before a rash appears in eczema.

Typically, eczema shows itself as:

Patches of chronically itchy, dry, thickened skin, usually on the hands, neck, face, and legs (but it can occur anywhere). In children, the inner creases of the knees and elbows are often involved.

If scratched, dry patches of skin and open sores with crusts may develop and may get infected.

It can be hard to tell for sure if you have eczema. You’ll want to see a dermatologist or other doctor to find out.

At your appointment, your doctor will check your skin and talk with you about your symptoms, your health history in general, and any rashes or allergies that run in your family.

If your doctor decides you need meds to treat your eczema, those may include:

Hydrocortisone. Over-the-counter cream or ointment versions of it may help mild eczema. If yours is severe, you may need a prescription dose.

Antihistamines. Ones you take by mouth are available over-the-counter and may help relieve symptoms. Some of these make you drowsy, but others don’t.

Corticosteroids. Your doctor may prescribe these if other treatments don’t work. Always follow your doctor's directions when taking steroids by mouth.

Ultraviolet light therapy. This may help if your skin condition is severe.

 Eczema Hands

All types of eczema cause itching and redness of the skin. But some, like hand eczema, look and act slightly different than others.

Some symptoms of hand eczema:

Redness

Itching

Pain

Dryness, to the point of peeling and flaking

Cracks

Blisters

Hand eczema, also known as hand dermatitis, is a common condition that affects about 10% of population. Both genetics and contact allergens (irritating substances) play a role in “triggering” this form of eczema. It often affects people who work in cleaning, catering, hairdressing, healthcare and mechanical jobs where they may come into contact with chemicals and other irritants.

Hand eczema isn’t contagious. You cannot “catch” it from another person, or give it to someone else. Even so, the symptoms of hand eczema can impact a person’s self-esteem and their ability to perform on the job.

There is another specific type of hand eczema called pompholyx or dyshidrotic eczema, which causes small, itchy blisters to appear on the palms of the hands. Dyshidrotic eczema tends to affect women more than men. If you think that you might have dyshidrotic eczema, make an appointment with your doctor.

 Microbial Eczema on Hands

Hand dermatitis is a common group of acute and chronic eczematous disorders that affect the dorsal and palmar aspects of the hand. Hand dermatitis is also known as microbial hand eczema.

Hand dermatitis may affect the backs of the hands, the palms or both. It can be very itchy, often burns, and is sometimes painful. It has acute, relapsing and chronic phases.

Acute hand dermatitis presents with:

Red macules, papules and plaques

Swelling

Blistering and weeping

Fissuring

Features of chronic hand dermatitis include:

Dryness and scale

Lichenification

There are various causes and clinical presentations of hand dermatitis.

Patients with all forms of hand dermatitis should be most particular to:

Minimise contact with irritants — even water

When washing hands, use non-soap cleanser, rinse carefully, and ensure hands are completely dry afterwards

Completely avoid touching allergens that have been identified by patch testing

Wear task-appropriate protective gloves

Apply thick emollients before work/school and reapply after washing or when the skin dries out (this may be 10–20 times in a day)

 Phlebitis Hand Veins

Superficial thrombophlebitis is an inflammatory condition of the veins due to a blood clot just below the surface of the skin. It usually occurs in the legs, but it can occasionally occur in the arms, hnds and neck. Anyone can develop superficial thrombophlebitis, but females are affected more than males.

Symptoms of superficial thrombophlebitis include:

redness and inflammation of the skin along a vein

warmth of the skin and tissue around the vein

tenderness and pain that worsens with added pressure

pain in the limb

darkening of the skin over the vein

hardening of the vein

Call your doctor if the above symptoms appear or get worse, or you develop new symptoms such as fever and chills. This could be a sign of a more serious illness or condition.

Superficial thrombophlebitis is treated at home in most cases. Your doctor might recommend applying a warm compress to the affected area and elevating it to relieve swelling. Wearing support stockings can also help reduce swelling.

Over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or aspirin, can help reduce the redness and irritation caused by inflammation. This condition usually goes away within two weeks. It can take longer for the hardness in your vein to subside.

In rare, serious cases, removal or stripping of the vein is necessary. This is more common if you have varicose veins.

 Skin Cancer on Hands

It is well known that excessive sun exposure can promote the development of many skin cancers. The 3 main types of skin cancer are melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Melanoma is the most deadly skin cancer because it spreads (metastasizes) more readily than the other forms of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, and it typically does not spread. Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of skin cancer, and while it can spread, it does not do so as commonly as melanoma. The risk of getting basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma is determined by a person's lifetime exposure to sun and the person's skin color, with pale skin being more prone to skin cancer.

Your awareness of the signs of skin cancer might allow you to find an early lesion on yourself or a loved one, before it is a significant health problem. Pre-cancerous skin changes include red, scaly lesions (especially on the face, ears, and backs of the hands) called actinic keratoses. When on the lip (usually the lower lip), it is called actinic cheilitis. Actinic keratoses are considered to be premalignant lesions as 1 in 100 cases per year will develop into squamous cell carcinoma. Moles that have started to itch or bleed or change in color or shape are also warning signs of possible melanoma.

Moles can be found in sun-exposed or clothing-covered areas. Although it is normal to acquire new moles from childhood through young adulthood, it is unusual to acquire a mole in the adult years. Most moles are normal; atypical moles are seen in any area of the skin, including non-sun-exposed areas. These moles are larger and more irregular in color and shape than normal moles, and they serve as an indicator that the person with these types of moles may be more prone to developing melanoma.

 Herpes on Hands

Herpes infection may appear on any part of the body. It is a viral disease, which can be caused either by type 1 or type 2 herpes simplex virus. The infection is categorized according to the area of infection. The most commonly seen are herpes zoster, oral herpes (also known as cold sores, fever blisters), genital herpes, herpetic whitlow (commonly called herpes on hands), etc. It is also known as digital herpes simplex, finger herpes, etc. The infection goes through a cycle of active and remission phases. The active phase can last for anywhere between 2 to 21 days. In the remission phase, the sores go away completely. Normally, a person may be infected with it only once in their lifetime. However, in some rare cases, there can be recurrence of the disease. This infection normally occurs on the fingers or the fingernail area. The name of the virus causing this condition is herpes simplex virus (HSV). It is extremely contagious condition and spreads easily.

Causes of Herpetic Whitlow
The main cause is due to the presence of chickenpox virus in the body. After a person contracts chickenpox, the virus may remain in the body in a dormant condition. When the virus becomes active, it gives rise to herpes infection. Other than this, it can be caused due to other reasons as well. The most common cause is spread of the infection is through touch, as it is very contagious. Infection present on one part of the body can spread to other parts of the body. Health care professionals are often at risk of contracting the infection from the patients. Children are also susceptible to this infection.

Herpetic Whitlow Symptoms
Herpes infection on the hands is most likely to be caused on the thumbs or the index fingers. The condition arises anywhere after 2 to 20 days after being exposed to the virus. The first symptom of herpes often is burning and/or tingling sensation along with pain. Subsequently the affected area becomes red and there is a swelling on the finger. In the next stage, clustered blisters are seen on the affected finger. These blisters have a bright red base to them. Along with the blisters, there are other symptoms of this condition as well. Fever often accompanies the herpes infection. In some cases, the lymph nodes present in the elbow or in the underarm area may be swollen. The chances of recurrence of the infection is rare. But in some cases, certain triggers like sun exposure, hormonal changes, trauma, stress, etc., can cause the disease to recur.

Treatment for Herpetic Whitlow
It is extremely important to take care of the condition and not let it spread to other parts of the body. Antiviral medications can be applied topically. There are different topical medications, which you can make use of. It is better to consult your health care professional to know about the one suitable for you. Likewise, there are also antiviral medications which can be taken orally. These medicines are said to prevent the recurrence of the condition.

A paste of baking soda and water can be applied to the finger or hand. After touching the infection, it is a MUST to wash hands with warm water and soap. Keep the affected area as dry as you can to facilitate recovery. One natural cure for herpes is the use of cold tea bags. Using these arrests viral activity and number of outbreaks reduces drastically.

If someone in your family is affected with this condition, care should be taken to stop the infection from spreading. It is best to wash the clothes of the infected person separately, along with the bed linen. It is best not to come in contact with the person physically. Contact your physician at the earliest.

 Furuncle on Arm

A boil, also called a furuncle, is a deep folliculitis, infection of the hair follicle. It is most commonly caused by infection by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, resulting in a painful swollen area on the skin caused by an accumulation of pus and dead tissue. Boils which are expanded are basically pus-filled nodules. Individual boils clustered together are called carbuncles. Most human infections are caused by coagulase-positive S. aureus strains, notable for the bacteria's ability to produce coagulase, an enzyme that can clot blood. Almost any organ system can be infected by S. aureus.

Boils are bumpy, red, pus-filled lumps around a hair follicle that are tender, warm, and very painful. They range from pea-sized to golf ball-sized. A yellow or white point at the center of the lump can be seen when the boil is ready to drain or discharge pus. In a severe infection, an individual may experience fever, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. A recurring boil is called chronic furunculosis. Skin infections tend to be recurrent in many patients and often spread to other family members. Systemic factors that lower resistance commonly are detectable, including: diabetes, obesity, and hematologic disorders. Boils can be caused by other skin conditions that cause the person to scratch and damage the skin.
Boils may appear on the buttocks or near the anus, the back, the neck, the stomach, the chest, the arms or legs, or even in the ear canal. Boils may also appear around the eye, where they are called styes. A boil on the gum is called intraoral dental sinus, or more commonly, a gumboil.
